Laptop VS Desktop: Why Do You Prefer A Laptop For Daily Use?

August 2, 2021 by admin

Computers surely have come a long way from their original usages and it seems like we will be more dependent on computers in the upcoming future more than ever. A computer could be used by a student for completing assignments and projects, by a businessman for handling his deals, by a shopkeeper for keeping track of his sales and so much more, not to mention the use of computers for entertainment.

Most people prefer using a laptop for daily use but in this article, we will compare both platforms and see if it is going to be better to shift to a desktop computer or vice versa.

Laptop VS Desktop- Why Do You Prefer A Laptop For Daily Use

Advantages of Desktop Computers

Following are some of the advantages of desktop computers over laptops which might be able to change your mind about purchasing a desktop computer.

No.1. Better Value

The best advantage of a desktop system is that you pay less for more performance. Desktop PC components have a better price to performance ratio than laptops and that is why a laptop user should shift to the other platform if he wants the best bang for the buck.

No.2. Wider Choice of Components

A desktop computer provides you with a lot of choices and there are tons of companies that design the components of desktop computers, thus being better than laptops in choice of components.

Also, the components of a desktop computer are usually far superior in performance as there is no restriction of size. For example, you won’t be able to use multiple high-end graphics cards in a laptop but can readily use up to four graphics cards in many desktop systems.

No.3. Compatibility

Compatibility is one of the things that I personally consider being a big plus point in the favor of desktop computers. You can literally select components from different manufacturers and your system would be fully compatible and ready to run. On the other hand, for a laptop, there are various restrictions in design which would result in physical or logical compatibilities between components, thus making the laptops a bit more complex than desktop computers.

No.4. Cooling Performance

One of the biggest issues about laptops is that they suffer from thermal throttling due to the smaller size and high power consumption in accordance with the size. The thermal throttling is specifically present in laptops with high-end specifications, i.e. a laptop with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 and an octa-core processor from Intel. On the other hand, a desktop PC user has no worries about the temperatures of the components as long he is using high-end cooling solutions and even if he is suffering from high thermals, he could simply change the cooling solution with a better one, resulting in temperature drops instantly.

No.5. Upgradability

Another big reason for purchasing a desktop computer is that you can always upgrade the components of a computer to better ones, thus increasing the efficiency and performance of the computer, which could be a great asset to some people.

Meanwhile, laptops are pretty much confined to whatever specifications they come with and there is a high chance that you won’t be able to upgrade anything except the RAM and storage capacity.

No.6. Modularity and Customization

Desktop computers are all about customization and how much you can modify the system. Since the components in a desktop system are modular, you could use various components of your previous desktop computer with your new desktop computer.

As for laptops, all you can do with the old laptop is to either sell it at low costs or simply throw it in the dust bin.

Advantages of Laptop Computers

Laptops definitely have their own pros that simply cannot be achieved by using a desktop PC and the following are some of those points.

No.1. Get a Good Case

Portability is the biggest advantage of a laptop that gives it a big edge over desktop computers. You can simply carry a laptop with you anywhere and use it wherever you want while this is simply impossible with desktop computers since they are bulky in size and you cannot carry them around. Speaking of portability, you can find some of the best laptops under 600 bucks here.

No.2. All-In-One Package

Another important point in the favor of laptops is that they are in the form of all-in-one packages. You don’t have to use a separate screen or peripherals, as all the components come attached with the chassis of the laptop.

While with the desktop computers, you will not just have to separately buy various components, they will remain separate, making them a bit more complex to handle.

No.3. Easier to use

Since laptops come in the form of all-in-one packages, they don’t usually have any learning curves and you can simply start using a laptop after unboxing it.

However, you will not just have to assemble the parts of a desktop computer, you might have to learn about the unique hardware components in order to use the system optimally.

Conclusion

Both platforms, laptops, and desktops, have their own usages. It might look like the advantages of desktop computers overweigh the advantages of laptops but in the end, just the portability of a laptop could be an ultimatum for a user. We hope that you will be able to judge your position easily after reading this article, whether you stand in the favour of laptops or desktop computers.
